The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has announced plans to enhance internet connectivity at William V. S. Tubman University, reinforcing the Government of Liberia’s commitment to expanding digital access and improving higher education through technology. The announcement was made by LTA Chairperson Hon. Clarence K. Massaquoi during the Authority’s Cybersecurity Marathon held in Harper, Maryland County, on Tuesday, July 7, under the theme, “Secure Your Digital Future.”

Chairperson Massaquoi said the initiative aligns with the Government’s digital transformation agenda under President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. and will provide the university with improve internet services to support teaching, learning, research, innovation, and administrative efficiency. “Improving internet access at our institutions of higher learning is essential to preparing the next generation for the digital economy,” Massaquoi said. “This initiative reflects our commitment to ensuring that students and educators have the connectivity needed to succeed in today’s technology-driven world.” He noted that the decision followed an appeal by former Chief Justice Gloria Musu Scott, underscoring the importance of reliable digital infrastructure in advancing quality education.

Tubman University President Prof. Dr. Olu Q. Menjay welcomed the announcement, describing it as a timely investment that will strengthen the university’s technological capacity and create greater opportunities for digital learning. “This support will significantly enhance our teaching and learning environment while helping us address longstanding connectivity challenges,” Menjay said. “It will also expand opportunities for research, innovation, and digital education across our campus.” The planned internet upgrade reflects the LTA’s continued efforts to bridge the digital divide by expanding access to reliable connectivity for educational institutions, empowering students and educators, and supporting Liberia’s broader vision for a digitally inclusive future.
