Monrovia, Liberia – The Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) has reaffirmed its commitment to making telecommunications services more affordable while accelerating the country’s digital transformation through regulatory reforms, broadband expansion, and strategic ICT investments. Speaking at the start of the Liberia Technology Summit 2026, LTA Commissioner Patrick R. Honnah furthered that the Authority is reviewing the World Bank’s telecommunications sector assessment to identify factors driving the cost of voice and data services and to guide reforms that promote competition and improve affordability.

“The findings will guide evidence-based regulatory decisions aimed at promoting sustainable competition, reducing unnecessary costs within the telecommunications sector, and making communication services more affordable and accessible to consumers,” Honnah said. The Commissioner said the LTA will continue implementing initiatives that expand digital access and strengthen consumer protection, including the School Connect Project, which is providing high-speed internet to 156 public senior high schools, ECOWAS Free Roaming Agreements, the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) system, and partnerships that support digital government and financial inclusion.

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, who officially launched the summit, described digital transformation as a key pillar of his administration’s development agenda, emphasizing that technology should improve governance, create jobs, and expand opportunities for Liberians. “Our digital transformation agenda is not simply about technology. It is about improving the lives of our people through efficient governance, economic growth, greater transparency, and expanded opportunities,” President Boakai said.

The President commended the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, the LTA, development partners, and the private sector for advancing Liberia’s digital agenda through the annual technology summit. The LTA said it remains committed to fostering innovation, expanding broadband infrastructure, strengthening cybersecurity, and working with stakeholders to build an inclusive and affordable digital economy for all Liberians.
