Buchanan Gets New Consumer Support Center as LTA Expands Services Beyond Monrovia
BUCHANAN, Grand Bassa County — September 4, 2026: Residents of Grand Bassa County and surrounding areas will now have easier access to telecommunications regulatory services following the official opening of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority’s (LTA) Consumer Support Center in Buchanan. The new facility is part of the LTA’s broader decentralization drive to bring consumer protection, complaint resolution, and regulatory services closer to communities across Liberia Speaking at the opening, LTA Board Chairperson Hon. Clarence K. Massaquoi said decentralization is essential to ensuring that government services are accessible and responsive to citizens. “When government decentralizes, it brings government closer to the people.” Massaquoi said the Buchanan center represents a broader vision for an LTA that is present and accessible across the country, rather than being concentrated in Monrovia. “We do not want to see an LTA that is only in Monrovia.
We want to see an LTA whose services are decentralized and accessible to our people.” LTA Commissioner for Consumer, Public Affairs and Universal Access, Hon. Patrick R. Honnah, encouraged residents to take advantage of the center, particularly when facing challenges with telecommunications providers. “When you have a problem with a telecommunications service provider, you no longer have to travel to Monrovia to seek help.” The center will enable consumers to report concerns related to poor network quality, internet disruptions, billing disputes, and other telecommunications challenges, while providing a direct channel for assistance and complaint resolution. Grand Bassa County Superintendent Karyou Johnson welcomed the initiative, noting that the center will reduce the need for residents to travel long distances to access essential telecommunications information and services. He also said the facility has the potential to create employment opportunities for residents of the county.
Representing the Disabled Community in Grand Bassa, the head of the community Robert Barrolle, called on telecommunications service providers to strengthen systems for detecting and preventing scams, stressing the need for greater consumer protection in the digital environment. Orange Liberia Customer Experience Madam Sara Buchana also welcomed the establishment of the Buchanan center, describing it as an important step toward improving access to telecommunications regulatory services. She emphasized the value of collaboration with the LTA and said consumer feedback can help operators identify challenges and improve service delivery. She further encouraged customers to better understand and manage their mobile data and digital services, noting that increased consumer awareness can reduce misunderstandings, strengthen confidence, and contribute to better service experiences. The Buchanan Consumer Support Center is expected to serve as a closer point of contact for consumers in Grand Bassa and neighboring areas, reinforcing the LTA’s commitment to accessible, responsive, and consumer-focused telecommunications regulation across Liberia.
