LTA, Ministry of Youth & Sports Launch Nationwide Digital Skills Initiative for Liberian Youth
Monrovia, Liberia – In a major step toward advancing digital inclusion and youth empowerment, the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) and the Ministry of Youth & Sports (MYS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish and operate 15 Youth Digital Skills Hubs across Liberia. The initiative is designed to equip young Liberians with essential digital competencies, improve access to technology, and create new opportunities for education, innovation, and entrepreneurship in communities throughout the country. Under the agreement, the LTA will provide computers, printers, Starlink internet equipment, and one year of internet connectivity for each hub. The Authority will also fully fund a three-month digital skills training program expected to benefit approximately 750 young people nationwide.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, LTA Chairperson Hon. Clarence K. Massaquoi described the partnership as a strategic investment in Liberia’s future and reaffirmed the Authority’s commitment to supporting the Government’s digital transformation agenda. “This initiative reflects our commitment to ensuring that young Liberians have access to the tools, knowledge, and opportunities needed to succeed in the digital economy,” Massaquoi said. “By expanding access to technology and digital skills training, we are helping to prepare a new generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders.” The LTA Chairperson noted that the project aligns with the Authority’s broader vision of promoting digital literacy, increasing access to online learning resources, and bridging the digital divide across Liberia.
For her part, Youth and Sports Minister Cllr. Jeror Cole Bangalu Cornelia Kruah welcomed the partnership and praised the LTA for its investment in youth development. “This partnership demonstrates a shared commitment to empowering Liberia’s young people with the skills and opportunities they need to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital world,” Minister Kruah said. “We see this initiative as a milestone in building a brighter future for the youth of Liberia and ensuring that they are equipped to compete and succeed in the 21st century.” Under the MOU, the Ministry of Youth & Sports will coordinate the implementation of the project, provide facilities to host the digital hubs, and mobilize youth participation in the training programs.
The Youth Digital Skills Hubs are expected to serve as centers for learning, innovation, and digital engagement, providing young people with practical skills that can enhance their educational and employment prospects. The agreement will remain in effect through October 2029 and is expected to lay the foundation for sustained collaboration between the two institutions in promoting youth empowerment, digital literacy, and national development. The partnership marks another significant milestone in Liberia’s journey toward a more connected, inclusive, and technology-driven future.
