Acting Commissioner Angela Cassell Bush of the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) attended the 81st Annual General Meeting of ICANN in Istanbul, Türkiye, joining global stakeholders to discuss the latest developments in Internet governance.
The meeting featured workshops, forums, and policy discussions that brought together leaders from around the world to address pressing issues in managing the global Internet ecosystem. During the event, Commissioner Bush engaged directly with ICANN leadership and international stakeholders to highlight Liberia’s Internet governance challenges and opportunities. She also met Dr. Catherine Adeya, the only African and female member of the ICANN Board, whose trailblazing work in the Internet sector served as an inspiration.
Commissioner Bush emphasized the need for capacity-building initiatives to empower local stakeholders, particularly young Liberians, in Internet governance. She also explored opportunities for long-term collaboration with ICANN to strengthen Liberia’s digital infrastructure, promote a secure online environment, and ensure greater inclusivity in Internet policymaking.
“Building strong local capacity and fostering international partnerships are key to ensuring that Liberia can fully participate in shaping the Internet of the future,” Commissioner Bush noted. ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, plays a critical role in coordinating the global Internet, ensuring stable and secure operation of domain names and IP addresses worldwide.
