CCL Acquires ICT Equipment to Boost Liberia’s Internet Exchange Point
The Cable Consortium of Liberia (CCL) has taken delivery of new ICT equipment, acquired through funding provided by the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA), to strengthen operations at the Liberia Internet Exchange Point (IXP).
An Internet Exchange Point plays a critical role in a country’s digital ecosystem. By enabling direct traffic exchange between Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and networks, IXPs reduce reliance on international routing, lower bandwidth costs, cut down on latency, and improve the overall speed and reliability of internet services. In short, the IXP serves as the nerve center of local internet connectivity, making Liberia’s internet more resilient and efficient.
During the handover program, Commissioner Angela Cassell Bush, who has oversight of the International Gateway Services, highlighted the importance of the investment: “I see this as a significant step toward greater future development. We have extensively deliberated this matter as a Board and recognized the need to pay more attention to our critical infrastructure and make the necessary investments,” she said.
The Commissioner emphasized that upgrading the IXP is not only about technology, but about building the foundation for Liberia’s digital transformation, ensuring that citizens, businesses, and institutions can benefit from faster and more reliable internet access.
Henry Benson, CEO of CCL, expressed appreciation to the LTA for its leadership and foresight: “We are grateful to the LTA for funding this initiative. Their farsightedness shows a clear commitment to strengthening Liberia’s digital infrastructure and preparing the country for the demands of the modern internet age.” With this upgrade, stakeholders believe Liberia is taking a decisive step toward greater digital inclusion, ensuring that the nation’s internet infrastructure is equipped to handle growing demand while improving service quality for end users across the country.
